A technical plan of the Lancia Delta, drawn in pen, line by line, on 250 g/m² paper, 11 × 17 in (27.9 x 43.2 cm). A physical nib presses into the paper and lays down real ink, in Québec. On the back: a serial number and a date, drawn in UV ink in the same pass as the artwork.

The Delta's silhouette exists as a file, everywhere — a drawing anyone can call up on a screen. What doesn't exist everywhere is a copy that can say who drew it, where, on what day, and under which number.

The Lancia Delta won European Car of the Year for 1980 before most buyers had even driven one, then proved the jury right across 478,645 units built through 1994. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign and built on a stiffened Fiat Ritmo platform, the 1.5-litre, 85 PS version shown here ran 0–100 km/h in about 12.5 seconds and topped out near 161 km/h — modest numbers that mattered less than the hatchback's clean proportions and genuinely spacious cabin. The same shape would later carry Lancia's rally-winning HF Integrale, but this is the car as most people actually bought it.

Each piece is physically plotted by the studio's precision robot in Québec City, using Stabilo® Fineliners and Sakura® Gelly Roll inks on 250 gsm (120 lb) stock — stroke by stroke, never printed. A physical tip presses into the paper and lays down real ink. The result is a tactile, hand-plotted finish — never printed.

Hidden signature

The CodeInk signature glowing under UV light on the back of a plotted piece

Real footage — an early production piece, shown under blacklight.

A signature only UV light reveals

On the back of every piece, in the same pass as the drawing, we plot a signature invisible under normal light — codeink.art, the piece's name and serial number, the year, and Québec. Shine a blacklight on it and it glows.

“Say "Lancia Delta" and most people picture the Integrale — flared arches, rally livery, four driven wheels. This is the car before any of that: a plain five-door hatchback that won Car of the Year on proportion and packaging alone, years before anyone bolted a turbo to it. Drawing the base model felt almost like drawing a different car — no scoops, no vents, just Giugiaro's original idea, undiluted.”

— Carlos, CodeInk.art, Québec

Open production

This piece isn't a limited edition — production stays open. Small variations in ink flow and line closure can occur during physical plotting, giving each plotted piece its own production trace.

The pen wears down as it draws. Ink runs denser at the start. One line closes a hair away from the last. Nothing gets corrected and nothing gets hidden: it's the simplest proof the object was made rather than duplicated.

PERFECTLY imperfect.
