A technical plan of the Saab JAS 39 Gripen, plotted pen to paper, line by line, on 250 g/m² paper, 11 × 17 in. A physical tip presses into the paper and lays down real ink, one pass at a time. On the back, a serial number and date, plotted in UV ink in the same pass as the drawing.
The plan of the Gripen exists as a file, everywhere. What doesn't exist everywhere is a copy someone can point to and say who drew it, where, on what day, and under what serial number.
The Saab JAS 39 Gripen was designed to do three jobs at once — its name is a Swedish acronym for Jakt (fighter), Attack (strike), and Spaning (reconnaissance) — and to operate from short stretches of ordinary highway, part of Sweden's Cold War plan to keep flying even if its air bases were bombed. First flown December 9, 1988, it's a delta-canard design, small and light by fighter standards, with a single RM12 engine pushing it to Mach 2. Around 300 have been built and exported to air forces across Europe, Africa, and South America. This blueprint captures the canard foreplanes mounted forward of the cockpit, the surfaces that give the Gripen its tight turning circle.

Each piece is physically plotted by the studio's precision robot in Québec City, using Stabilo® Fineliners and Sakura® Gelly Roll inks on 250 gsm (120 lb) stock — stroke by stroke, never printed. A physical tip presses into the paper and lays down real ink. The result is a tactile, hand-plotted finish — never printed.
